Four Indian Springs Seniors Named Presidential Scholar Candidates

Four Indian Springs Seniors have been selected as candidates for the United States Presidential Scholars Program: Will Mashburn ’24, Matthew Thomson ’24, Mylo Waara ’24, and Yusuf Zengul ’24

Approximately 100 students from Alabama and more than 5,000 students nationwide were selected as candidates from nearly 3.6 million students expected to graduate from U.S. high schools in 2024.

Established in 1964, the Presidential Scholars Program seeks to recognize some of the country’s most distinguished graduating seniors. Scholars are selected based on superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character, and involvement in community and school activities.

Candidates are invited to submit an application to continue in the program. Up to 161 finalists will be named Presidential Scholars and will have the opportunity to attend a White House-sponsored recognition ceremony in Washington, D.C., this June.

Since the program began, six Indian Springs students have been named Presidential Scholars, one of the country’s highest honors for high school students.

Congratulations Will, Matthew, Mylo, and Yusuf!
