Zhang Advances to Finals of CCTV-Français Contest

ISS sophomore Alice Zhang ’18 has advanced to the finals of the 2015 CCTV French Contest hosted by CCTV-Français and Alliance Française!

As part of the televised semifinal round Saturday in Beijing, Zhang spoke on camera for three minutes about ways that Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and Claude Monet’s San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk inspired two photos and a watercolor that she created. “My main point was that people love art because it opens the doors to our imaginations,” says Zhang. “We see what we want to see.”

Of the 10 contestants selected to advance to the finals, Zhang was one of only four to receive a “yes” vote from all three semifinal judges. At age 15, she is also the youngest contestant to advance.

Zhang, who worked with ISS French teacher Dr. Jonathan Horn to prepare for the semifinals, will return to Beijing in November for a weeklong CCTV-Français “boot camp” and the final round of competition. The winner of the contest will receive a scholarship to study at a university in Paris.

Congratulations, Alice!
