Three ISS Juniors Chosen for Area Youth Leadership Programs

ISS juniors Emma Turner ’17, Joseph Copeland ’17, and Matt Lash ’17 have been chosen to participate in selective 2015-16 leadership programs for area high school students.

Turner and Copeland will attend Youth Leadership Forum of Birmingham, an outgrowth of the Leadership Birmingham program for adults. The forum exposes high school students to community needs, problems, resources, and opportunities and encourages them to get involved in community affairs. The program’s six sessions, which highlight the arts, government, human services, economic development, education, and other aspects of the Birmingham community, will begin Wednesday and run monthly through March. About 40 students from area high schools will take part.

Lash will attend Youth Leadership Shelby County, a program of the Leadership Shelby County Alumni Association. He and about 30 other students from public and private Shelby County high schools will meet monthly during the 2015-16 school year to learn about leadership by talking with community leaders about the county’s government, health care facilities, education system, and environmental conservation efforts.

Congratulations to Emma, Joseph, and Matt!
