ISS Physics Team Claims Five Awards at UA Contest

Congratulations to the ISS Physics Team, which claimed five awards at the 40th annual University of Alabama High School Physics Contest!

More than 300 students participated in the 2016 competition, held January 29 at the UA Ferguson Center. The contest includes a written exam and ciphering exam, followed by an open house highlighting current physics research.

Claire Chen ’16, Yifan Wang ’17, Allen Xu ’17, and Oliver Shao ’17 won the third place team ciphering award in the contest’s private school division. Top 10 individual winners included Yuzhao Pan ’16, who claimed eighth place (his third year to place in the top 10); Xu, who placed seventh; and Shao, who won third place. Shao also won the first place award for best all-around performance by a first-year physics student.

ISS Physics Team members Connie Yang ’17, Sofia Raible ’18, and Matyas Jakubu ’17 also competed and scored well on the written and ciphering exams.
