Forty-four Indian Springs students received 102 honors—including 46 Gold Keys, the highest level of achievement at the regional level—in the 2023 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
Founded in 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards program seeks to celebrate student achievement in the visual and literary arts in 28 categories. Art is broken into 17 categories, including architecture & industrial design, photography, painting, drawing & illustration, fashion, and more. Writing encompasses 11 categories, including flash fiction, poetry, journalism, short story, personal essay & memoir, humor, and more. Submissions are evaluated for originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.
Notable Scholastic alums include Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Stephen King, Zac Posen, Joyce Carol Oates, Robert Redford, and other creative visionaries.
Students receiving Gold Keys will advance to compete for Gold and Silver medals at the national level this spring. To learn more about the awards, visit
