Golden Helps Give Teens Access to Prom Dresses

Springs prides itself as a place where citizenship is embraced and encouraged — and Awbrey Golden '10 is taking that citizenship to a whole new level, seeking to help young women in the Birmingham area who can't afford to buy prom dresses.

Awbrey has single-handedly resurrected the Cinderella Project, a program in which Springs students donate gently used formal dresses for use by Birmingham students as they anticipate their school proms, an important part of a teen's school experience.

After hearing announcements from Awbrey about the project during Town Hall meetings, students donated nearly 20 dresses, which have been given to Oak Mountain Mission Ministries to distribute to families in need.

"I decided to start this project again because I wanted to help the community outside of Springs and since this is such a great place for fundraisers, I thought that it would be a great success," Awbrey says. She is already making plans to repeat and expand the project next year.
